Caleb and Georgia Nott, the bother and sister duo that compose Broods, kicked off the fourth night of their 2016 North American tour at New York City’s Webster Hall on Tuesday night. Broods already has two critically acclaimed albums, as well as a slew of internally renowned hits, only three years in to their collaboration. Their most recent release Conscious (Capitol Records, 2016) is, in and of itself, a tour de force—never overshadowing its predecessor Evergreen (Capitol Records, 2014), but instead creating a landscape for new and often improved vocals, lyrics, and beats.

As live performers, Broods are seductive in maybe the least provocative way; which is a good thing. They rely entirely on their incredible skills (on vocals and on the keyboard) and the energy of the audience to create an immersive atmosphere—one that is inescapable and totally enchanting. The setlist provides a balance that is almost executed perfectly; paying homage to the old and an almost inexplicably making the new seem like classics. While there is little banter between songs, sans Georgia making fun of her own New Zealand accent and a slew of thank you’s to Broods’ loyal fans and audience, there is an utter charm where the duos stage presence is concerned (as smiles were strewn across their faces almost the entire evening).

Broods continue their tour through the end of September stateside and be sure to check them out at broodsmusic.com and on iTunes.
