Laura Pergolizzi is the full package; a total babe, with a touch of androgyny, and a trove of talent so raw it actually induced a bidding war at SXSW between notable record labels a few years back. Known in the industry and to her fans as LP, Laura’s songs have been featured in mainstream media for years (in commercials, shows and sung by musicians like Rihanna and Christina Aguilera). Now, in 2018, Laura has amassed an incredible following and a triumph of critical acclaim. In the midst of recording her fifth studio album, LP hit the road to showcase her latest release, Lost on You (Vagrant, 2016), alongside her greatest hits. On Thursday night, LP stopped by New York’s Brooklyn Steel.

As a live act, LP surpasses both her reputation and all expectations. Laura presents flawless renditions of songs like “Strange” and “Tokyo Sunrise” while fans admirably and meticulously scream the lyrics back. As a whole, the set feels like an emotional rollercoaster (rising and falling with the ebb and flow of each beat and lyric). There is a sense of serenity that embodies the evening, as smiles wash over the crowd and casual conversation flows from one stranger to the next (unanimously in agreement with how utterly incredible the show is and how amazing Laura’s voice and sound reads in person). There are very few performers who sound better live than on their albums, but LP certainly takes the title.
