Sabrina Claudio was one of the main reasons troves of fans showed up hours early to stand in line outside of Brooklyn Steel on Monday night. As the line warped over a block in length, her name was on the tip of everyone’s tongue (despite playing support to 6lack on his national tour). For those who haven’t heard, Sabrina (at the age of 21) has already charted with Billboard and caught the eyes of Vogue (with her bold fashion sense). Hailing from Miami, the half-Cuban and half–Puerto Rican singer/songwriter has taken the world by storm with her soul/R&B stylings—and with good reason.

Sabrina’s music, on the whole, is indescribably sexy. Outside of the obvious seductive rhythm of her music and sultriness of her voice, it’s the honesty and emotion behind Sabrina’s lyrics that set her apart from the rest of the industry right now. Showcasing that talent and energy live might be one of the most genuine experiences any concert could ever hope to offer its audience. Sabrina brings with her a quirky playfulness and an alluring charm to her set (fans who scream, “marry me” and “I love you” seem to reach every corner of the room). Dressed in a tan, skin-tight, onesie, it’s hard to take your eyes off Sabrina—in fact, by the time she closes her set with the lyrics “I belong to you” it almost feels true (she’s bears her heart, soul, and body to her fans—begging the question, “what/who else is there?”).

This raw honesty makes Sabrina’s time on stage feel fleeting. While she makes a brief appearance later in the show with 6lack, a national headlining tour of her own seems overdue. Sabrina’s debut album About Time (SC Entertainment, 2017) is only months old, but it’s just begun to make waves. It’s only a matter of time before she’s selling out venues twice the size.
