Kevin Garrett live at Webster Hall
His name may not be a household one yet, but there is something entirely too haunting about Kevin Garrett (the Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter)–just ask Katy Perry and Sam Smith, who have both publicly endorsed the up-and-comer on their respective social media accounts. The Roc Nation artist/young twenty something has already toured with the likes of X Ambassador and Skylar Grey since releasing his first EP “Mellow Drama” in April of 2015. Tuesday night Garrett rang in the new year on tour with Alessia Cara (whose song “Here” just set a historical climb to Billboard’s No. 1 on the Pop Songs chart after 26 weeks of play).
What may have been a daunting task for other artists, opening for such a hot songstress, left Garrett unfettered; he played with the ease and confidence of a veteran performer, hitting impossibly high chords and winning over the eyes and ears of countless teens and adults strewed throughout New York City’s Webster Hall. His style and beats could easily leave some wondering how an artist of this caliber has flown under the radar for so long. Despite this, there is no doubt that the year is Garrett’s for the taking. His work speaks for itself and his presence leaves little to be desired–he is hype-machine gold, worthy of both the publicity and the praise.
