It’s been nearly 14 years since Paramore broke out onto the music scene, 10 years since the group went Platinum and nabbed their first Grammy, and nearly 4 years since their last album release—that is, until last year when they released After Laughter (Fueled by Ramen, 2017). It’s been a long and often bumpy ride, but Paramore’s latest album showcases their resilience and evolution in an entirely new era. In 2018, they took the album out on tour, stopping by Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on Tuesday night.

On stage, there is something noticeably different about the group.  Paramore has gone through a few iterations of its band members, and after time apart from the group its original drummer Zac Farro is back. It’s not just that though, Hayley Williams has ditched her iconically colorful hair in favor of a toned down, more neutral, look. Although a streak of blue remains, the 28-year-old radiates a maturity that is mirrored by the more serious lyrics backing Paramore’s latest album (although the lyrics are innocuously matched with perfectly upbeat tunes). One thing that remains unwavering even from their days on the road with the now-defunct Warped Tour, is their unparalleled energy on stage. Old songs like “Misery Business” and “Still Into You” play seamlessly with newer hits like “Caught in the Middle” and “Rose-Colored Boy” (mixed with Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody”)—everything about this 2018 iteration of Paramore works just as well as 2005 (when their very first album debuted).
