MØ live at Barclays Center
In an industry that is full of female musicians, it has become increasingly hard (if not impossible) to find a unique sound (or even persona). Having already been compared to the likes of Grimes and Charlie XCX, it would seem the cards are stacked against Karen Marie Ørsted (who performs under the stage name MØ). These comparisons should not be applied to MØ. She offers something many other artists simply do not: personality, presence, charm, and relatability…all while garnering respect and camaraderie from a wide array of notable musicians (co-writing and singing on tracks with Major Lazer and Iggy Azalea, to name a few). Unique really is the only word to describe MØ’s diverse talents and it is something that radiates onstage.
MØ showcased her talents Thursday night in New York City at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center (opening for KYGO). From the moment she walked on stage it was obvious that MØ was trying to bridge the 10 foot gap between her and the crowd; not just singing to the audience but making them feel like they knew her, like they were onstage with her. Her behavior can best be described as bouncy and energetic as she floated from left to right–seeming trapped by the traditional confines of the stage. It was almost bordering on nervous as she finally leapt out into the audience; she did this time and time again as she eased her way through her set (never missing a single beat). When MØ finally sang “Lean On”–the music video just reached a major milestone on YouTube with over a billion views–everyone was totally enamored with the 27 year old from Denmark.
It is no doubt that MØ will someday be headlining her own an arena tour as she continues to rise in the ranks of today’s leading female musicians. “No Mythologies to Follow”, MØ’s freshman album, was release on RCA Records in 2014. Be sure to check her out at momomoyouth.com.
