People who are still asking who Bebe Rexha is should maybe reconsider asking the more all-encompassing question, who isn’t she; Rexha is everything and most notably, in 2017, a force to be reckoned with. A self-taught musician, Rexha caught recognition for her work as a teenager (winning the “Best Teen Songwriter” award from the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences–the Grammy Awarding contingency–nearly a decade ago). Since then, Rexha has had quite an illustrious career: playing lead singer on a Pete Wentz project, writing songs for the likes of Selena GomezRihanna and Eminem, and collaborating with G-EazyMartin Garrix, and Nicki Minaj(among others). Late last year, Rexha released “I Got You” off her EP All Your Fault: Pt 1 (Warner Brothers, 2017), and instantly charted Billboard’s Hot 100. This month, Rexha kicked off her first headlining tour to support the album with help from fellow label-mate Spencer Ludwig. On Wednesday night the tour stopped through New York City’s Irving Plaza (the first of two concerts in the artist’s hometown).

To kick the evening off Spencer Ludwig brought his inescapably sexy vibes to the stage. His musical stylings, which have accompanied bands like Foster the PeopleCapital CitiesSt. Lucia, and Fitz and the Tantrums, are best described as popped out, jazzed up, R&B. Performing as a solo artist, Ludwig brings a unique charm and soulfulness to any room–a perfect introduction to the rest of the night.

Rexha took stage shortly before 10pm, to an audience hyped up and chanting the songstresses name. There is a certain theatric element to the opening of her set which created an atmosphere of disbelief for the rest of the hour–guest singers Ashanti and Joey Badass, further solidified this notion and proved that Rexha’s has a power paralleled by some of the top recording artists today. As a whole, the night was unforgettable (as hits like “Me, Myself, & I” and “FFF” continue to resonate in the ears and hearts of audiences and fans alike).
