Charlie Puth live at Webster Hall
Charlie Puth is the man of the hour. Since signing with Atlantic records last year, he’s had numerous high-profile collaborations (notable among them are Meghan Trainor, Wiz Khalifa, and Selena Gomez); oh, and while we’re name dropping, let’s not forget his hit song “Marvin Gaye”, which propelled him to the top of the charts in 4 countries–ultimately landing him a number 21 spot on the coveted Billboard Hot 100. Topping the charts is only one of Puth’s many talents. At 24 the artist is a masterful piano player, songwriter, and producer–spanning the full gambit of musical prowess (it’s no wonder, considering Puth is an alum of the extremely prestigious Berklee College of Music). At the beginning of the year Puth dropped his freshman album Nine Track Mind (Atlantic, 2016) and embarked on his North American headline tour last month in support of the album. Thursday night Puth brought his funky pop stylings to a sold-out Webster Hall in the heart of New York City.
Puth’s live performance is everything you would expect from him, and maybe more. Add charisma, boyish charm, and the image of a teenage heartthrob into the mix and Puth completely steals the attention of everyone in the room with little to no effort. He may have started as a YouTube sensation, but it’s apparent from the way he acts onstage that there’s never been a barrier (digital or physical) between him and his audience. He truly shines onstage, like the star he has quickly become. All said and done, the past year and a half only seems like the tip of the iceberg for the young talent. Fans and critics alike will, no doubt, be watching as he continues to grow for years to come.
